Susan Candaele
Susan is a counsellor with over thirty years of clinical experience and a sustained commitment to supporting clients through meaningful therapeutic work. She is grounded in a Rogerian, person-centred approach, which emphasizes the importance of a trusting and safe therapeutic relationship as the foundation for change, growth, and healing.
Susan began her career at Information Children at Simon Fraser University, where she and a colleague operated a parenting helpline and facilitated free parenting workshops in the community. After graduation, she completed specialized training in sexual abuse intervention for both adults and children and worked at Cameray Children’s Centre for several years.
She later completed the “Stopping the Violence Against Women and Children Who Witness Violence” program through the British Columbia and Yukon government, further deepening her expertise in trauma-informed care. Following her work with abused women, Susan returned to graduate studies and completed her master’s degree, after which she worked as an individual and couples counsellor with Family Services of Greater Vancouver.
Susan is a member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association and actively engages in continuing education throughout the year. She values ongoing professional development as an essential part of maintaining ethical, effective practice and preventing complacency in clinical work. Susan often notes that experience alone does not guarantee quality care, and she remains committed to reflective, evidence-informed practice throughout her career.
Outside of her counselling practice, Susan finds great joy in the simple but meaningful moments of life. A question that has always resonated with her is, “When do you feel the most joy?” Reflecting on her own life, she recalls the overwhelming happiness she felt holding her first grandchild as an infant—a moment that reminded her of the importance of cherishing the people and experiences that bring genuine joy.
Susan considers herself fortunate and approaches each day with gratitude. While she was raised in a loving family where emotions were not often openly discussed, this experience inspired her lifelong commitment to understanding, expressing, and embracing the full range of human emotions. She believes that both our most difficult and most joyful experiences deserve to be acknowledged and expressed.
Naturally curious, Susan has a passion for lifelong learning and welcomes opportunities for growth, even when they come through mistakes and challenges. She values connection, authenticity, and the ongoing journey of self-discovery.
When she is not working with clients, Susan enjoys spending time with her children, grandchildren, friends, and beloved dog, who has been a daily source of companionship and joy for over a decade. She also enjoys long walks, canoeing, swimming, painting, reading, arts and crafts, and travelling. Drawn to the calming influence of nature, she loves being near the ocean and divides her time between a Gulf Island community and Vancouver.

Outside of work, Dawn enjoys spending time outdoors with friends exploring the mountains, oceans, lakes, and rivers. She loves travelling and cycling, and she especially enjoys tending to an overly ambitious garden that continually tests what can survive outside the Mediterranean.

Amby Lakdawala
Growing up in Mumbai, India, Amby learned early that life can take unexpected turns. Her journey through two master’s degrees—first in Child Psychology in India and later in Counselling in Vancouver—taught her that growth happens when people are willing to question, adapt, and rebuild.
Having worked extensively with clients navigating life after a concussion, she has witnessed how the challenges and lows that follow a concussion can weigh someone down indefinitely. However, she also believes these experiences can become fertile ground for meaningful and lasting growth. For those who choose the path toward healing and change, she is committed to helping them sow the seeds of transformation.
She understands that concussion recovery is not just about managing symptoms; it is about rebuilding one’s sense of self and finding a way forward when the familiar feels foreign. Drawing from a range of evidence-based psychotherapeutic approaches, she helps clients develop the emotional habits, tools, and techniques needed to move toward their life goals. Her aim is to empower individuals to build resilience and confidence so that, over time, they become increasingly self-sufficient and her role in their journey gradually becomes redundant.
Outside of work, you’ll usually find her either on the dance floor grooving to salsa music or exploring the BC backcountry in a canoe.
